Reinventing myself- grabbing the opportunities and moving on

Sascha Fogel, shares her experiences of reinventing career and life by grabbing the opportunities and moving on to live her dream. Today she is in the business of making other women live their dreams.

In 1999 I was sitting in an office as an Inside Sales Rep, I was working at a TV station in the interactive department. Now, this was just before the dot.com bubble burst and I had taken my time starting school and getting a degree I was undecided on which direction to go. In reality, I didn’t want anything because I felt lost and felt the world was very small.

What I did know was that the movie "Working Girl" with Melanie Griffith appealed to me, strutting around in a suit, all important and very career oriented.

“Being an ambitious, powerful, female professional was something I wanted, but I didn’t know how to get it and what it would take for me to get to that place.”

So my next choice leads me down a path that probably was the wrong one at the time, I chose to become a multimedia designer. I moved to the furthest corner of Denmark to a town so small that the crows go there to make a U-turn as we say in Danish. I had been accepted to a school, the only one of its kind in the Scandinavian countries, and I felt pressured to become something.

During a programming class, I was staring out the window bored out of my mind, beating myself up because the expectations were that I needed to graduate and choose a direction with my career and life.

In that moment sitting in class, I start to daydream about working in NYC so I started to search for internships in the US and on a whim I sent off an email asking if I could intern at a web agency in the US. Six hours later I had an interview in NYC, somewhere I had never been.

To my surprise, I got the internship and I moved across an ocean; full of nerves and expectations. An opportunity was opening up to reinventing career.

I was given my first assignment – I was to design educational postcards for women to empower them to learn how to use the Internet.

“The client was none other than Oprah Winfrey… YES OPRAH!! Suddenly my direction became more clear and I loved it!”

After almost 15 years in tech & media, I decided to go for a career change. I went back to school and received a teaching degree, after which followed several years teaching high schoolers both in Denmark and in the United Kingdom.
Then, in 2014 I had yet another opportunity to reinvent myself. Because of a move to Amsterdam with my husband, I jumped at the chance and I started to implement all my work and life experiences into one business. What I love most about what I do is helping women get clear on what they really want in their career and life and assist them to Choose the right career path for themselves, to help them feel courageous enough to reach higher and help them develop their talents. Having worked with many women and seen the transformation in their lives, I feel grateful to be able to support them in their life and career decisions.
My vision is incorporated in every part of my entrepreneurial, networking, private and family life. When asked what is most important to me the answer will always be, to help women have the focus that will bring them the Confidence, Courage and Clarity they require to create a career & life they love.

The reason I’m telling this story now is because I wish someone would have told me that there are always opportunities around us, all we need is to be able to identify them and it’s okay to change your mind. It’s okay to start over and it definitely okay to move on to something new!

We are never too old to learn (I was 40 years old when I started my business) and a new door will always open, we just have to look for opportunities in what we are doing. I built a career and life I truly love and so can you.

“Are you living the career & life you’ve always dreamt of, right now this moment?”

Dealing with the Empty Nest Syndrome

Very beautifully written! We all go through similar emotions when our kids move out . The degree of missing them varies depending on the bond between the parents and the children. It is surely wise to cherish the new found free time by keeping oneself occupied with ones long lost hobbies and more quality time between the parents. Maybe give more time to ones aging parents who too must be missing us ! Meditation and Yoga does the magic trick too !
