5 Honeymoon destinations for the adventurous newly-weds

Have you ever wondered where the word honeymoon has its origins? I have come across this word a million times, used it casually but somehow never stopped to research where or how it came to being. I assumed honeymoon was about something romantic, blissful and on a practical not the possibility of getting to know each other better, in case you still haven’t got around to do that in the hustle bustle of marriage and its many paraphernalia.

Guess what it seems I was pretty much off the mark. A widely disputed explanation but seemingly the most accepted one is that the term comes from a tradition in n ancient Babylonian where mead was drunk in great quantities at weddings and then after the ceremony nuptial couples were given a month’s supply of mead It was believed that by faithfully drinking mead for that first month, the woman would “bear fruit” and a child would be born within the year. Mead was honey beer, and Babylonians referred it to the honey month.

Modern day interpretation is something close to mine and it has been shortened and is only honeymoon and not month. That seems a practical especially if you want to make it an exotic cum unforgettable few days with your beloved and are also ready to shell out vast sums of money.

Honeymoon or honeymoon destinations these days just like marriages is getting really exotic or adventurous. Gone are the days of secluded resorts, a small hilly town or golden sandy beaches.
